Water

This week’s post is on something you can start doing tomorrow morning, and ideally every morning from here on out. It’s not a complicated routine, it’s not a certain meal, and it takes less than 30 second to do. What is it? This morning ritual is starting your day off with a large glass of water!

Sure, it sounds simple. But really think about how you start off every morning. Do you only occasionally start it off with a large glass or two of water? Do you head right over to breakfast and pour yourself a bowl of cereal? I’m not trying to put off your breakfast here! Here’s the small tweak: instead of doing your morning routine and then eating breakfast before heading out, pour yourself a tall glass or two of pure, clear water before you go about that morning routine. While you do your routine (shower, brush your teeth, whatever it may be) that morning hydration is surging through your body, getting things moving and cleansing the entire system…all before you even sit down for breakfast!

The reason I called this post “Weight Loss, Detox & Water” is because when you start to really get into this ritual every morning, you’ll find that the water does two things: it cleanses and detoxifies you, and it dramatically enhances weight loss. You already know that starting your day off with water leaves you feeling more energized and hydrated. But having a good amount of water first thing in the morning also gives your body a chance to go to work and get some of that debris out of there! Some of the most radical weight loss stories I’ve heard, mostly from women losing anywhere from 50-150 lbs, involve this one simple morning ritual. Don’t underestimate this one!

If you’re interested in weight loss at all, I really recommend just adopting this one quick habit. Try it for 7 days and see if you notice a difference in your weight, in how “light” you feel from starting to move out more toxins and wastes. Even better, make it a 21-day challenge and set a goal for yourself! While I know not everyone reading this wants to lose weight, I can guarantee that you’ll want to move as much waste out of your body as you can! Waste can do one of two things: stay stuck in your body and drain your energy levels or be flushed out. I’ll choose the second!

Try this one out if you haven’t picked up that morning ritual of starting out every day with 1-2 glasses of pure water. It’s worth the walk to the kitchen ;)

Thanks John,,,
I think it’s a great idea,,, and a headstart to getting the water we need for the day…I’ve read that most headaches are from dehydration…So maybe we would also be a “happier world” if everyone drank two big glasses of water upon rising… Also know that a teaspoon or two of lemon or lime juice added to that water can ramp up the detox effects…
Thanks again,,, ‘chelle in Lodi

John,
I am so enjoying your blog. It’s informative, well written, easy to read and beautiful.
And who wouldn’t love a tip so easy to follow and FREE; I’m going to start my days with 1-2 glasses of water before the coffee or shower. Sounds wonderful! Thank you so much. Hope to hear you rockin’ again soon! Don’t put down that guitar! Namaste, Gail

I hope thats the Gail i know and love thats responding to the posts. If not, well then thats ok too. John i’m on board with Gail. Great stuff, i enjoy the tips and am making an honest effort to follow some of your strategies. Do you have any advice on concentration/studying ability? I’m trying to cram for an exam right now, but my mind wanders. Does diet affect concentration ability?

How blessed you are to find the raw food lifestyle so young. I am about 2 1/2 months raw. I have seen so many benefits from it. I know many of my challenges in life are being reversed to a healthier more vibrant life. Continue on this road and when your older you will be far better off than so many.
Your site is very well written and enjoyable to read.

@ All: Thanks for all the comments! It’s great to hear the feedback, and I’m glad to hear the willingness to really explore some of the options out there (there’s so many choices we all face day-in and day-out)

@ BJ: That’s a great question, your diet definitely has a tremendous effect on your ability to concentrate. The best example I can think of off the top of my head is little kids on soda or candy – the sugar completely throws off their ability to concentrate their mind, and turns them restless in the high first, followed by the low crash. So one important thing is killing off all the added sugars and sugar substitutes, choosing to get your sugars from fresh fruit and other natural foods. When your blood sugar is balanced, your mind is balanced so the meal you eat before studying is really key.

A great strategy might be to play around with some of your more common meals and see what gives you the most long-term, stable energy. Nuts and seeds make a great long-term snack anytime!

Great blog I’m adding you to my RSS feeder so as not to miss anything.

Many people are better of with a couple of glasses of lukewarm water with lemon and honey. Further detoxifies.

Also, Avoid refrigerated water at all times.
